Granite, Marble & Other Natural Stone Care
Read all labels thoroughly and if there is no indication that a product is safe for natural stone, do not use.
Safe Products to Use
- Diluted neutral dish detergent liquid (a few drops w/ ~16 ounces of warm water in a spray bottle)
- Do not use automatic dishwasher detergent
- Natural stone cleaner
- Granite or marble polish
- Terry cloth or soft towels/sponges
- Regular tap water
Cleaning Method
- Wipe off counters to remove excess dirt.
- Apply stone cleaner or diluted detergent
- Using a soft damp cloth or sponge, wipe in a circular motion to help prevent streaking
- Rinse surface thoroughly after washing
- Change rinse water frequently to avoid build-up of soap film
- Using a circular motion, dry counter with soft or terry cloth towel
Polishing Method
- Spray stone polish directly onto the counter (a little goes a long way so don’t overdo spray)
- Wipe off polish w/ dry cloth using circular motion
- Wait until a haze forms on the stone
- Buff to a shine w/ soft cloth (circular motion)
Never Use the Following on Granite, Marble, or Other Natural Stone
- Ammonia products (e.g. most window cleaners) as over time ammonia creates a dull film or coating that damages stone
- Abrasive cleaners (e.g. bathroom cleansers)
- Products containing lemon, vinegar or other acids
- Strong anti-bacterial agents (can discolor and/or damage stone)
- Any wood polish (unless indicates safe for natural stone)
