Granite, Marble & Other Natural Stone Care

Read all labels thoroughly and if there is no indication that a product is safe for natural stone, do not use.

Safe Products to Use

  • Diluted neutral dish detergent liquid (a few drops w/ ~16 ounces of warm water in a spray bottle)
  • Do not use automatic dishwasher detergent
  • Natural stone cleaner
  • Granite or marble polish
  • Terry cloth or soft towels/sponges
  • Regular tap water

Cleaning Method

  1. Wipe off counters to remove excess dirt.
  2. Apply stone cleaner or diluted detergent
  3. Using a soft damp cloth or sponge, wipe in a circular motion to help prevent streaking
  4. Rinse surface thoroughly after washing
  5. Change rinse water frequently to avoid build-up of soap film
  6. Using a circular motion, dry counter with soft or terry cloth towel

Polishing Method

  1. Spray stone polish directly onto the counter (a little goes a long way so don’t overdo spray)
  2. Wipe off polish w/ dry cloth using circular motion
  3. Wait until a haze forms on the stone
  4. Buff to a shine w/ soft cloth (circular motion)

Never Use the Following on Granite, Marble, or Other Natural Stone

  • Ammonia products (e.g. most window cleaners) as over time ammonia creates a dull film or coating that damages stone
  • Abrasive cleaners (e.g. bathroom cleansers)
  • Products containing lemon, vinegar or other acids
  • Strong anti-bacterial agents (can discolor and/or damage stone)
  • Any wood polish (unless indicates safe for natural stone)
